The National Institute of Epidemiology (NIE) was established on July 2, 1999 by merging the Central JALMA Institute for Leprosy (CJIL Field Unit), Avadi with the Institute for Research in Medical Statistics (IRMS), Chennai. The broad objectives of the Institute cover Development of human resources in epidemiology and bio-statistics, Networking of the various ICMR and non-ICMR Institutes at the national level for epidemiological purposes, and Consultancy.

Project Scientist C (Non-Medical) (Health Economist & Allied) - 02 posts

Project : ICMR-NIE – Health Technology Assessment Resource Center

Essential Qualification
1st Class Master Degree in Economics/ Health Economics/ Econometrics/ Actuarial science/Public Health / Epidemiology/Public Administration/ Health care Management from arecognized institution/university/ with 4 years’ experience
(OR)
2nd Class Master Degree in Life sciences/ Health Economics/Public Health / Epidemiology/Public Administration/ Health Management/ Actuarial science, from a recognized institution/university+ PhD with 4 years’ experience

Desirable Qualification
• Doctorate in relevant subject from a recognized university
• Additional Post-doctoral research experience in relevant subjects in recognized Institute(s)
• Experience in conducting of health economic studies or economic models.
• Experience in managing projects in Health sector in recognized institute
• Working Knowledge of Statistical Packages like SPSS, R and spread sheets such as MS Excel.
• Good Scientific writing and communication skills

Notes
a) MD / PhD in the above subjects shall be treated equivalent to three years’ experience.
b) MPH / MAE / Postgraduate Diploma in above subjects shall be treated equivalent to two years’ experience.
c) All other things equal, Candidates with proven scientific writing skills & good communication skills in English as evidenced by publications either as Primary or Corresponding Author in peer reviewed international journals will be preferred.
d) Educational Qualification and Duration of Experience will be relaxed in case of the deserving candidates.
e) Age relaxation is allowable to corresponding years of work experience in the Research Experience in ICMR.
f) If no suitable candidate is found, the post may be downgraded and filled.

Age limit : 40 years

Emoluments : Non-Medical: Consolidated salary of Rs.51,000/- (plus HRA)

Nature of Duties
• Will be responsible for all the Resource centre activities under the guidance of PI
• Will prepare the study design, develop decision analytic tree and markov models, formulate the model in spread sheet/other software’s, statistical analysis, report writing and dissemination of results
• Conduction of literature review including systematic review.
• Supervise/collect primary data collection for costing and, stakeholders’ interviews, statistical analysis, report writing and dissemination of results
• To provide support for planning, managing and implementation of various components of the HTA projects
• Field visits to survey sites for Monitoring & Evaluation
• Any other work assigned by the Director/PI

Duration : One Year (Renewable for the project duration subject to performance and project requirement)

NON – MEDICAL
BDS / B.V.Sc. & AH degree recognized by DCI / VCI with six years’ experience in relevant subject after BDS / B.V.Sc. degree (OR) 1st Class M.Sc. (Geography) from a recognized university with 4 years’ experience in the health research.

• Conduct meetings / workshops / training programs
• Willingness to travel anywhere in India
