Applications are invited for the recruitment of various positions on contractual basis with consolidated pay under the DBT sponsored project entitled, “Integrating herbal medicine of NER with contemporary approaches to develop therapeutic strategies for metabolic syndrome” at Institute of Advanced Study in Science and Technology (IASST) Garchuk, Guwahati (Assam). Eligible and interested candidates can submit application.
Scientist-E/Equivalent
Number of Post: 1
Pay (Consolidated Emolument per Month):
Rs. 1, 16,333 for 1st year
Rs. 1, 23,250 for 2nd year
Rs. 1, 30,416 for 3rd year
Educational Qualification and Experience: PhD in Organic Chemistry/Natural Product Chemistry/Drug design & Development/Medicinal Chemistry with minimum 10 years of research experience in Post-doctoral level of which at least five years’ work experience should be in herbal medicine, herbal formulation and development of therapeutic strategies for metabolic syndrome.
Desirable: The candidate should be able to provide strong leadership in synthetic and medicinal chemistry. He/she should possess knowledge on animal models and should be able to supervise/guide a small research team of about 12 members comprised of one scientist, research associates, senior research fellows and technical assistants. He/she should possesses a record of high quality research to his/her credits (Publications in high impact factor journals).
Age: Age limit is 55 years on last date prescribed for application submission. It is relaxable for SC/ST/Woman candidates as per Govt. rule.
Scope of application by permanent employee: Candidates already working in permanent position in Scientist D level can also apply and work on lien or deputation basis, if selected. They will however, have to apply through proper channel.
Future Prospect: As the project activity advances, permanent position may appear in the Traditional Knowledge based Drug Discovery programme. IASST may consider the selected candidate for such position in due course, subject to meeting statutory requirements.
Scientist-D/Equivalent
Number of Post: 01
Pay:
Rs. 76,833 for 1st year
Rs. 81,333 for 2nd year
Rs. 86,000 for 3rd year
Educational Qualification and Experience: PhD in any branch of Life Sciences with at least five years research in the area of cell biology in any reputed laboratory. Must have extensive experience with methods to monitor cellular mechanisms and also be familiar with high-throughput screening protocols. Sound knowledge of mechanisms involved in the metabolic syndrome is essential. The candidate must have good publication in Thomson Reuters impact factor journals.
Desirable: Expertise in handling animals and a knowledge of confocal microscopy. The candidate should possess the ability to lead in a group of several researchers and provide technical and intellectual support to the group.
Age: Age limit is 50 years on last date prescribed for application submission. It is relaxable for SC/ST/Woman candidates as per Govt. rule.
Research Associate - I
Number of Post: 01
Pay: Rs. 36,000/- + 20%HRA
Educational Qualification and Experience:
Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry/Medicinal Chemistry/Natural Product Chemistry (or) M.Sc. pursuing Ph.D. in the specified subjects having three years research experience with at least three research papers in SCI journals.
Desirable: Candidates with strong background in the specified area of Ph.D. and research experience on animal experimentation/cell culture techniques/ molecular biology tools will be given preference.
Age: Age limit is 32 years on last date prescribed for application submission. It is relaxable for SC/ST/Woman candidates as per Govt. rule.

For all positions, 15%, 7.5% and 27% seats are reserved for SC, ST and OBC (Non Creamy) candidates respectively, subject to availability of such candidates. There shall also be 3% horizontal reservation for physically-handicapped persons (only for locomotor disabilities of lower limbs between 50% to 70% or as per Govt. of India Rules in this regard) subject to availability of such candidates. If suitable candidates are not available under the reserved categories, positions will be filled up by un-reserved category candidates. These criterion are applicable for all three positions mentioned above.
