The Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology (RGCB) is a growing phenomenon. Located in Thiruvananthapuram, the capital city of Kerala, RGCB began in 1990 amongst humble surroundings as a small charitable society called the Centre for Development of Education, Science and Technology (C-DEST). In 1991, recognizing its potential, the C-DEST was made a “Grant-in-Aid” institute of the Government of Kerala and renamed as Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Development of Education, Science and Technology (RGC-DEST), becoming the first institute in the country to be named after Sri Rajiv Gandhi, the young illustrious and visionary former Prime Minster of India.
Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology (RGCB) invites application for admission to the PhD program (January 2015 session) in various research domains. The eligibility to apply in the respective core disciplines is given below:
Chronic Disease Biology, Tropical Disease Biology, Disease Biology and Laboratory Medicine & Molecular Diagnostics: A postgraduate degree in Biotechnology or Botany or Zoology or Life Sciences or Chemical Sciences or Agricultural Sciences or Environmental Sciences or Pharmacy or Veterinary Sciences or a MBBS degree.
Chemical Biology: A Postgraduate degree in Chemical Sciences is preferred although all the qualifications listed in category I will be considered.
Plant Biotechnology: A Postgraduate degree in Plant Sciences or Agricultural Sciences is preferred although all the qualifications listed in category I will be considered.
Computational Biology: A Postgraduate degree in Bioinformatics or Computer Sciences or Computational Biology is preferred although all the qualifications listed in category I will be considered.
All general category candidates should have a minimum of 60% marks (OGPA - 6.0) and SC/ST candidates should have a minimum of 50% marks (OGPA-5.0) for their postgraduate degree. Candidates awaiting final postgraduate examination results are also eligible to apply, but should produce a valid certificate confirming passing the exams with the prescribed mark aggregate at the time of interview. All applicants should have a valid Research Fellowship from UGC/CSIR/ICMR/DBT/KSCSTE/DST-INSPIRE at the time of seeking admission to the RGCB PhD program. Candidates with any other fellowship other than listed have to contact the Office of Academic Affairs and confirm eligibility. Upper age limit is 28 years as on 23rd December 2014. Age limit will be relaxed for SC/ST candidates as per Government of India rules.
RGCB is currently affiliated to the University of Kerala, Manipal University, Mahatma Gandhi University and Kerala University of Health Sciences (KUHS) for the award of Ph.D. degrees.
The last date for receipt of completed applications forms is December 23, 2014. Candidates shortlisted for selection interview will be announced on December 26, 2014 (by email and posted on the website). Selection interviews will begin on January 12, 2015 and continue to January 17, 2015. Final list of selected candidates will be announced on January 17, 2015. The PhD program will formally begin on January 28, 2015.
