Multiple Openings at National Agri-Food Biotechnology Institute

National Agri-Food Biotechnology Institute (NABI) is an autonomous Institute under the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India. NABI aims at catalysing the transformation of the Agri-food sector in India by being a nodal organization for knowledge generation and translational science leading to value-added products based on Agri-Food biotech innovations for improved household nutritional security. Since its inception in 2010, NABI is involved in research activities for Biofortification, the development of designer crops for improved nutrition, providing sustainable and novel solutions for quality food and nutrition, and the development of evidence-based functional foods to counter malnutrition. 

The food and nutritional Biotechnology division at NABI requires the following research personnel purely on a temporary basis.

Junior Research Fellow (One position)
Project title: Translating TRPM8-mediated pharmacological cold mimicking into obesity prevention and therapeutics (NABI core)  
Principal Investigator: Dr. Mahendra Bishnoi, Scientist-E
Sponsoring Agency:   NABI core grant (Department of Biotechnology)
Essential Qualifications: -
1. Post Graduate Degree in Basic Science OR Graduate/Post Graduate Degree in professional course selected through a process described through any one of the following: - 
a. Scholars who are selected through National Eligibility Tests-CSIR-UGC-NET including Lectureship (Assistant Professorship), GATE and GPAT 
b. The selection process through National Level examinations conducted by central government departments and their agencies and institutions such as DST, DBT, DAE, DOS, DRDO, MHRD, ICAR, ICMR, IIT, IISc, IISER etc. 
Duration: - Appointment is co-terminus with the project.
Desired Experience: - Experience in working with rodents especially mice (injection and surgical techniques, primary cell culture techniques, real time RT-PCR, western blotting, immunohistochemistry with strong knowledge in basic concepts of neuroscience and metabolism research. Working knowledge of formulation development and its characterization will be helpful. Basic understanding of data analysis tools like Graphpad Prism and other bioinformatics tools will be plus.
Responsibilities: - Selected candidate will work in close association with the PI on the project to understand the role of sympathetic innervations and somatosensory pathways in menthol induced pharmacological cold mimicking. Candidate will also be responsible to manage day to day activities for the successful execution of the project, designing of the experiments, data analysis, manuscript writing and progress report preparation. 
Emoluments: - Rs. 31,000/- per month plus HRA (As per DST OM No.SR/S9/Z08/2018 dated 30.01.2019)

Junior Research Fellow (One position)
Project title : In-vitro and in-vivo functional evaluation of nutritionally rich bio-fortified varieties (ICAR-CRP Biofortification) (GAP 73)

Essential Qualifications: -
1. Post Graduate Degree in Basic Science OR Graduate/Post Graduate Degree in professional course selected through a process described through any one of the following: - 
a. Scholars who are selected through National Eligibility Tests-CSIR-UGC-NET including Lectureship (Assistant Professorship), GATE and GPAT 
b. The selection process through National Level examinations conducted by central government departments and their agencies and institutions such as DST, DBT, DAE, DOS, DRDO, MHRD, ICAR, ICMR, IIT, IISc, IISER etc.
Duration: - Appointment is co-terminus with the project.
Desired Experience : - Experience in working with cell lines for bioavailability and other related assays. Understanding of iron and zinc homeostasis in humans and rodents with focus on biomarkers associated with their deficiency. Basic understanding of data analysis tools like R and Graphpad Prism and other bioinformatics tools will be plus.
Responsibilities : - Selected candidate will work in close association with the PI on the project to understand the role TRPA1 on gut hormone release through enteroendocrine cells in stomach and colon. Further, he will link these findings to the development of ghrelin resistance and its prevention. Candidate will also be responsible to manage day to day activities for the successful execution of the project, designing of the experiments, data analysis, manuscript writing and progress report preparation. 
Emoluments :-Rs. 35,000/- per month (As per DST OM No.SR/S9/Z08/2018 dated 30.01.2019)

Project Assistant (01)
Project Title : Microbiome data mining to discover novel patterns.()
Principle Investigator: Dr. Shrikant Mantri, Scientist-F
Duration: The appointment will be initially for one year as Project Assistant or till thetermination of the project whichever is earlier. Continuation of appointment for the next yearwill be on the basis of submission of progress report and further assessment. The appointmentis co-terminus with the project along with availability of funds. It will not exceed beyond  project.
Essential Qualification: -
M.Sc in Bioinformatics/Biotechnology/Microbiology/Life Sciences or B. Tech in Biochemistry/Biotechnology with minimum 55% marks.
Emoluments and eligibility: - As per DST OM No. SR/S9/Z-05/2019 dated 10.07.2020 
Desirable Experience: -
We seek an enthusiastic scholar with a Masters in Bioinformatics / Biotechnology / Microbiology / Life Sciences or closely related disciplines with experience and interests in bioinformatics analyses. The project is focusing on multi-omics  big-data mining. Candidates are expected to have a solid foundation with the Linux/Unixcommand line and basic programming skills.
Age: 28 years (Relaxation is admissible in case of SC/ST/OBC/PD and women candidates as per GOI instructions)

Project Associate II
Project Title : Prions as stress sensors in plants: Role of DNA/RNA binding proteins in regulating stress memory (HGK-IYBA project)
Principle Investigator:Dr.Charanpreet Kaur, Scientist-D
Duration:  Six months (Till 15 February 2025)
Essential Qualification: Postgraduate degree in Basic Science or Graduate/Postgraduate in Botany/Microbiology/Agriculture/Bioinformatics/Biotechnology/Biochemistry and other fields in Life Sciences
Selected via a process described through any one of the following:
a) Scholars selected through National Eligibility Tests-CSIR UGC NET including Lectureship (Assistant Professorship) and GATE.
b) The selection process through National level examinations conducted by Central Government Departments and their agencies and institutions such as DST, DBT, DAE, DOS, DRDO, MHRD, ICAR, ICMR, IIT, IISc, IISER, etc.
Minimum of two years of research experience is essential.
Desirable qualifications: Candidate with experience in techniques such as cloning, protein purification, yeast-two hybrid, and using CRISPR/Cas system-mediated rice transformation will be preferred.
Age limit: 35 years

Desirable qualification: Research experience in molecular biology, microbiology and plant physiology.

Junior Research Fellow (JRF) with own fellowship (One number)
Project: Functional genomics evaluations of candidate genes responsible for starch quality in wheat(own fellowship)
PhD registration will be through: DBT-RCB, Faridabad or Punjab University, Chandigarh
Maximum duration: 5 years (JRF for 2 years and will be converted to SRF after evaluation) 
Area of research: Molecular breeding and molecular biology
Date of commencement: September, 2024

Project Summary: The project activities are given below:
i) Characterization of novel candidate genes associated with starch quality. 
ii) Functional analysis using functional genomics approaches such as overexpression and/or gene knockout or knock down systems
iii) Phenotyping of starch related on the wheat lines at multi-locations within India.
Essential Qualifications:
1. Post Graduate Degree in Basic Science OR Graduate/Post Graduate Degree in professional course.
2. Candidates who have own fellowship selected through National Eligibility Tests such as CSIR-JRF, UGC-JRF, DBT, etc. 
Desirable qualifications:
Proven experience in agricultural biotechnology and plant molecular biology

2. Candidates who have own fellowship selected through National Eligibility Tests such as CSIR-JRF, UGC-JRF, DBT, etc. 
Maximum duration: 5 years (JRF for 2 years and will be converted to SRF after evaluation) .

d. 2 year prior experience as JRF.

Responsibilities: - Selected candidate will work on genetics and breeding for colored wheat and biochemical analysis of anthocyanin and antioxidants in colored wheat and rice.  Candidate will also be responsible to manage day to day activities for the successful execution of the project, designing of the experiments, data analysis, manuscript writing and progress report preparation.

Application Procedure & Other Conditions
1. All interested candidates may appear for Walk-In-Interview at National Agri-Food Biotechnology Institute located at Knowledge city, Sector-81, Mohali - 140306, Punjab on 03.09.2024 at 09:00 A.M. along with the duly filled application form available on the website nabi.res.in.
2. Incomplete application forms and applications that are not in proper format may be summarily rejected. 
3. The applications should be submitted strictly as per the prescribed format that can be downloaded from the NABI website. 
4. Candidates applying for more than one option can give their preference in the same application by ticking multiple options. No need to submit a separate application form for each option. 
5. Candidates should ensure that information mentioned in the application form is accurate. Once the application form is submitted no further request regarding any changes/ information in the application form will be considered.                         
6. The duly filled application form must be submitted at the time of registration at NABI from 09:00 AM to 10:00 AM on 03.09.2024.
7. The candidates must ascertain their eligibility before applying, as ineligible candidates will not be interviewed.
8. All the candidates are requested to appear for a Walk-In interview with an application form, experience certificates, publications, and original degree certificates and transcripts. 
9. Original mark sheets, certificates, award/fellowship, etc must be accomplished for verification at the time of the interview, and attach one set of attested copies of the documents with the application form.  
10. No TA/DA will be paid for appearing in the interview.
11. Canvassing in any form or bringing influence, political or otherwise, will lead to disqualification of the candidate(s). 
12. Candidates should strictly adhere to guidelines issued by World Health Organization and Centre Govt/State Govt on Covid-19. 
13. In the event of special circumstances, candidates may request the project investigator (via email) to conduct their interviews online. Such requests must be submitted well in advance, preferably at least one week prior to the scheduled interview date. However, the final decision will be taken by the selection committee to ascertain the special circumstances and allow the candidate (s) for an online interview. The Institute reserves the right to conduct the interview in online/offline mode.
Note : Permission for online interview may be sought from the PI at least two weeks prior to the interview date and a valid reason must be given for the same.
