Post : Computational Chemist

Job Description
The Delivery, Device, and Connected Solutions Division (DDCS) within the Lilly Research Laboratories is an integrated device development and delivery organization which spans the life cycle from candidate selection to submission and post-approval for both small molecules and biologics (peptides and antibodies).
This position is in Computational Chemistry in DDCS.  You will have the responsibility for applying computational methods and tools to model and predict the properties and interactions between drug formulations and materials used in primary packaging and medical devices.  This position will require a fundamental understanding of the molecular components of formulations, including the biologics, and the materials that make up the medical devices and the packaging.
Candidates must demonstrate a history of strong technical depth, a broad base of modeling skills, scientific leadership and a willingness to promote a collaborative, team-based approach to problem solving.  The candidate will have a combination of deep fundamental knowledge in the areas related to chemistry/materials and strong mathematical modeling skills.  The candidate will also have the proven ability to apply these skills to problems related to the chemical properties of soft matter materials.  Experience in bio-physics modeling of biological molecules is a plus.

Key Objectives / Deliverables
You will contribute to the development of pharmaceutical products with some subset of the following responsibilities:
• Work with scientists and engineers to ensure that drug formulations are compatible with the materials that make up packaging and medical devices.
• Work with scientists and engineers in DDCS and partner organizations to design formulations that can be delivered effectively and safely through medical devices.
• Contribute to an increase in basic understanding of the science of delivery of biologics, such as interfacial interactions, aggregation, and transport.
• Enhance Lilly’s professional image and competitive advantage through patents, presentations, publications, and professional activities.
• Interact with third parties as needed for external modeling when needed.
• Stays abreast of relevant new technologies, capabilities, and regulatory expectations, guidelines, and requirements; effectively share this knowledge with others; and identify opportunities for implementation.
• Ensures individual and departmental compliance with the laws, regulations, guidelines, procedures, and practices governing drug research and development, including the departmental and corporate standard operating, good manufacturing, and safety procedures.
• Ensure that people and their environment are safe and that company policies concerning safety are followed.

Candidate Profile
• Ph.D. in Computational Chemistry, Computational Biophysics, or Computational Materials Chemistry
• Proficiency with commercial software packages for molecular dynamics simulations and applying to complex systems
• Expert knowledge of open-source software for molecular dynamics simulations such as Gromacs and LAMMPS and related programs used to build systems for use with these platforms
• Experience building and applying coarse-grained modeling on large systems or materials
• Working knowledge of python
• Experience implementing molecular simulations in a GPU hardware environment
