Center of Innovative and Applied Bioprocessing (CIAB) is an autonomous national institute under Department of Biotechnology (Govt. of India). This futuristic innovation institute of its own kind in the country has a mission of advancing knowledge, leads and emerging technologies/processes relevant to agri-food sector towards applications and products. It aims to link them with societal benefits through catalysing/promoting entrepreneurial action around bioprocesses, bio-products, value-addition to bioproducts etc. with special reference to the agri-food sector. Currently, the four major mandated R&D areas in hand at the institute are (A) Value Addition to Primary Processing Residues/ Wastes for Edible Products; (B) Valorisation of Crop Waste for Speciality Products and Chemicals; (C) Nutritionals, nutraceuticals and upgradation of value or use of bio-products, (D) Biosynthetic technology/synthetic biology for low volume-high value products and industrial enzymes.

(A) JUNIOR RESEARCH FELLOWS (WITH OWN FELLOWSHIP)

1. Junior Research Fellow (Biotechnology) – One Position
Age limit : 28 Years
Fellowship : As per fellowship awarding agency.
Qualifications: (i) M.Sc (Life Sciences / Biotechnology / Microbial Biotechnology / Biochemistry / Microbiology) from a recognized University / Institute OR M.E./M.Tech in Biotechnology from a recognized University / Institute and
(ii) having their own fellowship granted by CSIR/UGC/DBT/DST/ICAR/ICMR or other funding agencies.

2. Junior Research Fellow (Chemical / Nano / Material Science) – Two Positions
Age limit : 28 Years
Fellowship : As per fellowship awarding agency.
Qualifications : (i) Master’s Degree in Chemical Science/Biological Science/ Pharmaceutical Science or Master’s Degree in Engineering from a recognized University / Institute and (ii) having their own fellowship granted by CSIR/UGC/DBT/DST/ICAR/ICMR or other funding agencies.

3. Junior Research Fellow (Chemical Sciences) – Two Positions
Age limit : 28 Years
Fellowship : As per fellowship awarding agency
Qualifications : (i) M.Sc in Chemistry (General / Organic / Inorganic / Physical/Others) from a recognized University/Institute OR M.E./M.Tech in Chemical Engineering from a recognized University / Institute and
(ii) having their own fellowship granted by CSIR/UGC/DBT/DST/ICAR/ICMR or other funding agencies.

4. Junior Research Fellow (Chemical Engineering/Biotechnology) – Three Positions
Age limit : 28 Years
Fellowship : As per fellowship awarding agency.
Qualifications : (i) M.Sc (Chemistry, Biotechnology, Food Technology/ Microbial Technology / Life Sciences / Biology / Botany / Zoology / Biotechnology / Food Sciences) from a recognized University/Institute OR B.E. / B.Tech / M.E. / M.Tech (Chemical Engg/ Chemical Technology/Biochemical Engineering / Biotechnology / Bioengineering / Bioprocess Engineering/ Food Technology) from a recognized University / Institute and (ii) having their own fellowship granted by CSIR/UGC/DBT/DST/ICAR/ICMR or other funding agencies.

Note : Those appearing in the final year of Master’s examination and have been conferred fellowship from any of the above mentioned agencies, may also be considered. However, if selected, they will be required to provide proof of degree completion (provisional/original) and Fellowship Award Certificate before joining.

(B) FELLOWSHIPS FUNDED BY CIAB FOR INTERNAL R&D PROJECTS/ACTIVITIES

1. Research Associate-I (Biotechnology/Synthetic Biology) – One position
Age limit : 35 Years
Fellowship : Rs. 47,000/- per month + (HRA as admissible or Hostel facility, if available)
Tenure : One Year, extendable (post-evaluation) for subsequent years subject to satisfactory progress, institutional needs and financial provisions.
Qualifications : Ph.D# in Biotechnology/Microbial Biotechnology/Molecular Biology from a recognized University/Institute having at least one research paper (preferably as First Author) in Science Citation Indexed (SCI) journal. OR M.E./M. Tech in Biotechnology from a recognized University/Institute with three years’ research experience and having at least one research paper (preferably as First Author) in Science Citation Indexed (SCI) journal.

2. Research Associate-I (Chemical Engineering) – One position
Age limit : 35 Years
Fellowship : Rs. 47,000/- per month + (HRA as admissible or Hostel facility, if available)

Desired Experience : Biomass Valorisation/Agro-Bioprocessing / Process Engineering.

# The candidates who have submitted Ph.D thesis will also be eligible for the position of Research Associate, but they would be treated as SRF and will be paid emoluments as applicable to SRF (Rs. 35,000/- + HRA) till successful completion of Ph.D thesis viva.

(C) FELLOWSHIPS UNDER EXTERNALLY FUNDED PROJECTS AT CIAB, MOHALI

1. Junior Research Fellow – One position
Project Title : “BRICS technology platform for integrated bioprocessing of agricultural residues for ecosustainable production of biofuels and by-products”. Funded By – Department of Science and Technology (Govt. of India)
Age limit : 28 Years

Duration of the project : Upto 01-05-2022 Fellowship : Rs. 31,000/- + (HRA as admissible or Hostel Facility, if available) per month for first two years
Qualifications : (i) M.Sc. in Life Sciences (Biology/Biotechnology/Biochemistry/Microbiology) or Chemistry (General / Organic / Inorganic / Physical / Others) or Food Science & Technology from a recognized University / Institute OR B.E. / B. Tech. / M.E. / M. Tech. (Biotechnology / any other biological subject / Chemical Engineering / any other chemical subject / Food Science & Technology) from a recognized university/institute

2. Junior Research Fellow (Chemistry) – One position
Project Title : “Transformation of agro residue-rice straw-into downstream dicarboxylic acids-precursor for bioplastics-with nanoparticle encapsulated zeolites”.
Funded By : Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB) under ECRA scheme of DST (Govt. of India).
Principal Investigator : Dr. S. Saravanamurugan, Scientist-E (Catalysis Chemistry)
Duration of the project : Upto 02-03-2021
Age limit : 28 Years
Fellowship : Rs. 31,000/- + HRA as per DST norms
Qualifications : (i) M.Sc. in Chemistry (General / Organic / Inorganic / Physical) from a recognized University / Institute or M.E. / M. Tech. (Chemical Engineering) from a recognized University / Institute and (ii) NET / GATE / any other relevant equivalent nature of test qualified. Tenure – Upto duration of the project i.e. 02-03-2021 or cessation of operation and/or funding of the project by the project funding agency, whichever is earlier.

3. Junior Research Fellow – One position
Project Title : “Development of water soluble curcuminoids powder for use as a health additive”. Funded By – Punjab State Biotech Corporation, Mohali.
Principal Investigator : Dr. Bhuwan Bhushan Mishra, Scientist-C Duration of the project – Six months
Age limit : 28 Years
Fellowship : Rs. 31,000/- + HRA as per DST norms
Qualifications : (i) M.Sc. in Chemistry/Food Science from a recognized University / Institute OR M. Tech. in Food Technology and (ii) NET / GATE / any other relevant equivalent nature of test qualified.

4. Junior Research Fellow – One position
Project Title : “Production of D-allulose, a functional ingredient, for development of low-calorie food products”.
Funded By : Punjab State Biotech Corporation, Mohali. Principal Investigator – Dr. Sudhir Pratap Singh, Scientist-C
Duration of the project : Six months
Age limit : 28 Years Fellowship – Rs. 31,000/- + HRA as per DST norms
Qualifications : (i) M.Sc (Life Sciences / Biotechnology / Microbial Biotechnology / Biochemistry / Microbiology) from a recognized University / Institute OR M. E./M.Tech in Biotechnology from a recognized University / Institute and (ii) NET / GATE / any other relevant equivalent nature of test qualified.

5. Junior Research Fellow – One position
Project Title : “Extraction of starch from potato processing waste and transformation into resistant starch molecules”.
Funded By : Punjab State Biotech Corporation, Mohali. Principal Investigator – Dr. Sudhir Pratap Singh, Scientist-C
Duration of the project : Six months
Age limit : 28 Years
Fellowship : Rs. 31,000/- + HRA as per DST norms
Qualifications : (i) M.Sc (Life Sciences / Biotechnology / Microbial Biotechnology / Biochemistry / Microbiology) from a recognized University / Institute OR M. E./M.Tech in Biotechnology from a recognized University / Institute and (ii) NET / GATE / any other relevant equivalent nature of test qualified.

Process of Engagement
The applications received will be screened by a committee for shortlisting the candidates for interview. The eligible applicants would be interviewed by a duly constituted committee through video-conferencing mode. The committee would recommend the candidates, if found suitable, for consideration of the competent authority for engagement on purely on Fellowship/Stipendiary basis. Provisions of registration for Ph.D exist at Universities/Institutes having MoU with CIAB subject to scholar’s tangible performance, promise, academic suitability, etc.
