The Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Govt of India and International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB) have jointly set-up a collaborative centre to perform cutting-edge research in the field of bioenergy using genomics, metagenomics, synthetic biology and systems biology approaches. The investigators at the Centre are leading teams of research personnel to fulfill various objectives of the Bioenergy Centre, including cellulolytic degradation of plant biomass, engineering microbes for consolidated bioprocessing, engineering algae for higher lipid and biomass yield, and engineering microbes for advanced biofuel production.

Research Associate (RA): one position
Eligibility: PhD in Life Sciences and related fields
Senior Research Fellow (SRFs): Three positions
Eligibility: M.Tech or Masters degree in Life Sciences and related fields with 1-2 years of research experience.
Junior Research Fellow (JRF): one position
Eligibility: M.Tech or Masters degree in Life Sciences and related fields.
Research Experience: Experience in handling algae and genetic transformation
Job Description:
a). Chloroplast genome sequencing and annotation of important marine and freshwater algal species
b) Genome Editing / Metabolic Engineering/ Synthetic Biology: Chloroplast and nuclear genome transformation to improve productivity in marine and freshwater algae for biomass and oil improvement.
c) Syntrophy analysis between algae and other microbes (fungi/cyanobacteria) and phycoremediation of wastewater.
d) Techno-economic: Bio-flocculation and pyrolysis study on combined biomass; direct FAME from wet biomass of algae

25 Aug 2017. Project Duration: Initially for one year and it may be extended based on candidate performance till year 2022.
