RCB PhD Programme in Biotechnology Admissions 2025-26

The Regional Centre for Biotechnology (RCB) is an Institution of National Importance created by an Act of Parliament, established by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India, under the auspices of UNESCO. RCB has emerged as a pioneering institute for research in Biotechnology and is defining new horizons in providing world-class education, training and research at the interface of multiple disciplines.

The Doctoral Degree Programme
The Centre offers a doctoral programme leading to the award of the PhD degree to students holding a post-graduate degree (or an equivalent) in any field of science, medicine, or technology. The selected students undergo coursework followed by research leading to a doctoral thesis under the mentorship of a faculty. The programme is suited to candidates having an interest in working at the interface of multiple disciplines in the areas related (but not limited) to structural biology, molecular medicine, infectious disease biology, agricultural biotechnology, systems and synthetic biology, and cancer & cell biology.

Eligibility Criteria
i. Qualifications : 4-year Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree from a recognised institution in any area of science and technology, or a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery degree, or an equivalent degree.
ii. Qualifying Marks : 60% aggregate score or equivalent grade in the qualifying degree examination (5% relaxation for SC/ST/OBC-NCL/differently-abled allowed as per the GoI norms).
iii. No of seats : 17
iv. Reservation of seats: As per the GoI guidelines.
v. In addition to the above, candidates should have qualified for any of the following examinations and hold a valid fellowship offer at the time of the interview :
• Joint CSIR-UGC test for Junior Research Fellowship (CSIR/UGC JRF)
• DBT Junior Research Fellowship (DBT-JRF)
• ICMR Junior Research Fellowship (ICMR-JRF)
• Any other nationally competitive fellowship offered by the Government of India. Your candidature is contingent upon holding a valid fellowship tenable for a period of 5 years.

Selection Process
The application shall be submitted as per the link given below. Subsequently, an application fee of Rs.500/-, if applicable, is to be submitted by the applicant before the due date. SC/ST/PwD/EWS candidates are exempt from payment of application fee. The applications received by the due date will be scrutinized for eligibility. Eligible candidates will be called for a written test and/or interview on 3-4 July 2025 at RCB, Faridabad.

Providing false/incorrect information in the application form or non-possession of essential qualifications detected at any stage of the selection process will lead to the disqualification of the candidate. The decision of the Competent Authority at RCB shall be final and binding in this regard.

Fellowship
The students admitted to the programme will have to avail the fellowship for which they have qualified as per the rules of the funding agency. RCB will have no financial liability regarding the same.

Fees : The following fees are payable at the beginning of each semester.
Semester I-II
Academic Administration : Fee Rs. 5000
Tuition Fee : Rs. 6000
Laboratory Fee : Rs. 6000
Medical Fee : Rs. 3000
Student Amenities Fee : Rs. 1000
Hostel Fee : Rs. 1200
Semester III onwards
Academic Administration : Fee Rs. 5000
Laboratory Fee : Rs. 6000
Medical Fee : Rs. 3000
Student Amenities Fee : Rs. 1000
Hostel Fee : Rs. 1200

Caution money (Rs. 5000; refundable) is payable at the time of admission. Hostel Security Deposit of Rs. 5000 (if applicable). PhD thesis examination fee (Rs. 10,000) is payable at the time of PhD thesis submission. Hostel electricity charges are as per the installed meter, and the cooperative mess charges are to be paid as per actual. The fee may be revised during the course as per the provisions in the RCB Ordinance.
