Opportunity to Join institutional-JRF programme of IASST for M.Pharm, MSc, MTech

The Institute of Advanced Study in Science and Technology (IASST), Guwahati is an autonomous R&D Institute under the Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India. The Institute is engaged in frontier areas of research in the specific domain of Physical, Chemical, Mathematical and Biological Sciences. The Institute’s aim is to contribute to basic sciences and develop technology using local resources through strong interdisciplinary research approach across different divisions. Institute is equipped with modern and sophisticated instrumentation including TEM, SEM, XRD, LCMS-MS, AFM, DNA Sequencer and computational facility for cutting edge scientific research. Ph.D. program of IASST is affiliated to Academy of Scientific & Innovative Research (AcSIR), Gauhati University, Cotton University and Deakin University.

The Institute invites applications under the following research areas for admission as institutional JRF of IASST, Guwahati for the year 2025-26.

For Life Sciences
Area of Research & Basic Qualification
1. Plant Microbe Interactions, microbial bioactive metabolites against multi- drug resistant pathogens : M.Sc. in Botany (specialization in Microbiology), Biotechnology, Microbiology
2. Applied Microbiology and Biomedicine : M.Sc / M.Pharm / M.Tech in Life Science
3. Infectious Diseases & Antimicrobial Resistance. Drug discovery against Antimicrobial Resistance from natural resource : M.Sc. in Microbiology/Biotechnology

Eligibility : Candidates shall be eligible to apply for admission and registration within the ongoing program of research at IASST, if he/she has obtained 55% marks in aggregate (Equivalent CGPA in 10-point scale) in the master’s degree examination. A candidate belonging to SC/ST who has obtained 50% marks in aggregate in master degree examination shall also be eligible to apply.

Age Limits (as on last date of application) : Upper age limit is 28 years. Age relaxation for SC/ST/OBC/Women candidates as per the GOI Norms.

Application Procedure : Interested candidate should apply through online only (iasst.gov.in) within fifteen days of publication of the advertisement. Incomplete applications and those received after the closing date will not be entertained.
No TA/DA will be provided to the candidate for appearing the entrance and interview.

Selection Procedure : Selection will be based on the performance in the entrance test as well as in the interview. The expected dates of Entrance test and interview will be displayed in website/communicated to selected candidates. List of applicants selected to appear in the entrance test will be uploaded in the IASST website. The decisions of the admission committee will be final and binding and no correspondence will be entertained in this regard. Results of written test and interview will be available in IASST website and all correspondence must be done through the email to registrar@iasst.gov.in.

Candidates holding national fellowship from different funding agencies like CSIR-UGC- NET-JRF/DBT-JRF/ICMR-JRF etc. need not to appear for the written test but have to appear in the interview for final selection.

Selected candidates, after joining, will be eligible to apply for PhD admission in AcSIR or University under which supervisor is affiliated.

Fellowship/Financial support for institutional JRF : Selected candidates will be required to join the institutional fellowship program of IASST from 1st August 2025. The selected candidates shall be eligible for a monthly stipend and annual contingency as per the recent circular of DST, Govt. of India on fellowship for Ph.D. Subject to availability of seat, selected candidates will be provided accommodation in the Dorothy Hodgkin Student and Scientists Home as per the Institute’s rule.
