Botanical Survey of India (BSI), the apex taxonomic research organization of the country which is under the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Government of India was established on 13thFebruary 1890 under the direction of Sir George King. The organization’s mandate was to explore, collect, identify and document the rich plant resources of the erstwhile British India.

Applications are invited for the post of 3 Junior Research Fellow (JRF), 2 Junior Project Fellow (JPF) purely on a temporary basis (Indian national only) for the period of 3 years, subject to availability of fund under the project. The positions being offered are strictly temporary and co-terminus with the project.

PROJECT NAME : “ CONSERVATION OF PTERIDOPHYTES, DISTRIBUTION AND DIVERSITY PATTERENS IN EASTERN HIMALAYA”

PROJECT OBJECTIVES : The selected candidates are expected to do field survey in all the three Eastern Himalayan states extensively and work on curation of biodiversity information from various literatures, herbarium specimens. Candidates with sound knowledge in the plant taxonomy, herbarium preparation and fieldwork, knowledge on biodiversity indices, ecological studies will be preferred. Therefore, candidates having all above criteria and willing to travel to different parts of Eastern Himalaya are encouraged to apply.

Junior Research Fellow (JRF) - 3 posts 
Monthly Emoluments* : Rs 37,000/- + HRA as per MOEF CC norms for candidates qualified CSIR/UGC NET, GATE, or any other national level examination 
Qualification Essential : 1st Class M.Sc. Botany/ MSc. Life sciences / M.Sc in Ecology / M.Sc. Plant Sciences or Equivalent degree from a UGC recognized University. 
Desirable : Minimum 1 year of research experience in conducting field Surveys and should well versed with MS office Experience in data collection through basic field techniques and vegetation sampling. Experience in using statistical software data analysis as well as in experience in GIS, IUCN analysis. Knowledge in English (Speak, read, write) Proficiency in scientific writing. 

Maximum Age (Years)# : 28 years 
Work Description : The candidates will be required to extract data from herbaria, data entry, field surveys in Eastern Himalayas to collect data on Pteridophytes. Candidates expected to do data entry, data analysis, article & and report writing, and undertake any other tasks assigned by the PI under the project.

PLACE OF WORK : The selected candidates are expected to work in Western Regional Centre, Pune or any other regional centre. He/She will be required to undertake extensive travel to various regions, including, Sikkim, North Bengal, and Arunachal Pradesh, as well as other locations as per the project needs. Travel assignments may also involve extensive field trips to remote localities of the EH.

Candidates are requested to submit completed applications as per prescribed format [Annexure-2] accompanied by self-attested copies of educational certificates, research experience documentation, proof of date of birth, and copies of all examination mark sheets. If currently employed, applicants should also provide a 'No Objection Certificate' from their current employer. Applications should be sent via email to nmhsferns@gmail.com on or before 30- 04-2025. The envelope containing application form should inscribe ‘Application for the post of JRF/JPF/Field Assistant, Office Assistant cum Data Entry Operator under the NMHS funded project’.

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS
1. Candidates are requested to ensure their eligibility with respect to age, discipline, qualification etc. and then fill the application form as per Annexure- 1. 
2. The interview for candidate selection will be conducted in OFFLINE MODE ONLY at the office of the Botanical Survey of India (BSI), Western Regional Centre, 7- Koregaon Road, Pune, Maharashtra-411001. The date and time of Interview will be communicated separately to the shortlisted candidates. 
3. Candidates have to fill the application as in Annexure – 2 and to submit to the Project Investigator (PI), NMHS Project, Botanical Survey of India. 
4. Application for all positions will be screened, and only shortlisted candidates will be called for the interview. Selection will be done based on the performance in the interview and merit. Mere, possession of the prescribed qualifications does not guarantee an interview call or selection of the candidate. Any attempt to conceal, misrepresent, or canvas facts will result in disqualification. 
5. Selected candidates will be posted anywhere of EH as per project requirements and will need to join immediately. 
6. The application form is available for download on the Botanical Survey of India website: bsi.gov.in/advertisement. 
7. Shortlisted candidates must bring filled application forms and self-attested copies of documents at the time of interview for the verification. 

8. No TA/DA will be provided for attending the interview. 
9. Incomplete or misrepresented applications will not be considered and will be rejected. 
10. The candidate will not have the right of claiming a permanent position in BSI after completion of the project. The positions being offered are strictly temporary and co- terminus with the project. 
11. Candidates currently employed under any contractual obligations to serve Central/State Govt./ Any other Public Sector Undertaking or Autonomous body and if so, must provide a 'No Objection Certificate' at the time of interview from their present employer. 
12. No correspondence will be entertained either in regard to the call for interview and/or selection. Canvassing in any form will lead to disqualification. BSI reserve the right not to fill any position, if it so decides. 
13. The candidates are required to reach the interview venue at least one hour before the scheduled time of the interview. Late comers will not be entertained. 
14. Selected candidates may avail leaves as applicable to JRF/JPF/FA/OA-DEO working in BSI. 
15. The Director, Botanical Survey of India reserves the right to decrease the number of posts in different categories and cancellation of the advertisement without assigning any reason.
