RGCBThe Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology (RGCB) is a growing phenomenon. Located in Thiruvananthapuram, the capital city of Kerala, RGCB began in 1990 amongst humble surroundings as a small charitable society called the Centre for Development of Education, Science and Technology (C-DEST). In 1991, recognizing its potential, the C-DEST was made a “Grant-in-Aid” institute of the Government of Kerala and renamed as Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Development of Education, Science and Technology (RGC-DEST), becoming the first institute in the country to be named after Sri Rajiv Gandhi, the young illustrious and visionary former Prime Minster of India.

Applications are invited from suitable candidates for one position of Junior Research Fellow in a DST funded research project entitled "Single-molecule biosensing with hetero-oligomeric protein nanopores" in the laboratory of Dr. Mahendran K R at Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology, Thiruvananthapuram.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS : Candidates with a Master Degree in Life Sciences, Microbiology, Biotechnology, Chemistry, Physics and Biochemistry are eligible to apply. Applicants should have a minimum of 70% marks in MSc.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Qualification in National Eligibility Test: CSIR-UGC NET/GATE etc.
2. Experience in working with membrane proteins, single-molecule biophysics techniques, synthetic cells, nanosciences, molecular biology, analytical chemistry, organic and inorganic chemistry.

AGE :  Below 28 years as on 16th April, 2018.

EMOLUMENT:  25,000 + 20% HRA per month for M.Sc. Degree holders who have qualified at NET/GATE (with valid certificate) or Post Graduates in Professional Degree course qualified candidates. M.Sc. degree holders who do not have NET/GATE certification will be eligible for 12,000/- + 20% HRA per month.

DURATION :  The project will be active for 2 years but the initial appointment will be given for 1 year and further extension will be based on the performance.

SELECTION PROCESS : Suitably qualified candidates may send applications in the prescribed format below with a photograph, a copy of full resume indicating the percentage of Marks obtained and attested photocopies of credentials & experience to reach the undersigned on or before 16th April, 2018.

Envelopes must be superscripted with abbreviated title of the project, advertisement number and job title. Selection to the position will not entitle the candidate to any future positions at RGCB (permanent or otherwise). As with all project positions at RGCB, the position will be co terminus with end of the project.  Only those fulfilling the above criteria need apply and will be called for interview. In the event of more than 10 candidates being short-listed by screening the applications, a written test will be conducted before the selection interview and only those who are successful in the written test will be interviewed.
