The Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships program is one of a suite of elite federal research capacity development programs. The suite begins with early graduate student support through Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships, progresses to postdoctoral training through the Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships program and continues through the academic career progression (Tier 1 and 2 Canada Research Chairs) to a career pinnacle with the Canada Excellence Research Chairs, and announced in 2014, the Canada First Research Excellence Fund.
Eligibility
Citizenship and location of host institution
- Canadian citizens, permanent residents of Canada and foreign citizens are eligible to apply with the following stipulations:
- applicants who are not Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada may only hold their Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship at a Canadian institution,
- applicants who are Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada and who obtained their PhD, PhD-equivalent or health professional degree from a foreign university may only hold their Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship at a Canadian institution, and
- applicants who are Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada and who obtained their PhD, PhD-equivalent or health professional degree from a Canadian university may hold their Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship at either a Canadian institution or an institution outside of Canada.

Audiologist/Speech-language, Pathologist, Chiropodist/Podiatrist, Chiropractor, Dental Hygienist, Dentist/Dental Surgeon, Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist, Kinesiologist, Medical Laboratory Technologist, Medical Radiation Technologist, Midwifery, Naturopath , Occupational Therapist, Optometrist, Pharmacist, Physician/Surgeon, Physiologist, Physiotherapist, Psychoeducator, Psychologist, Recreational Therapist, Registered Nurse, Respiratory Therapist, Social Worker, Veterinarian.

The Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships program provides funding to the very best postdoctoral applicants, both nationally and internationally, who will positively contribute to the country's economic, social and research-based growth. Acknowledging the Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship
Wherever possible, Banting Fellows and host institutions are encouraged to acknowledge and promote the Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships program, administered by the Government of Canada. Please remember to mention that you are a “Banting Fellow” or “Hosting a Banting Fellow” in any documentation related to any scholarly activities (e.g., in the promotion of speaking engagements, at conferences or workshops, in biographical notes, in materials for the media, etc.).
Administration of the award: The Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) is the administering agency of the Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships (PDF) program and is responsible for the payment of awards.
Payment of the fellowship: Most award recipients conducting their research in Canada will receive payment through their host institution. Other recipients such as those conducting their research outside Canada will receive the award directly.
Guidelines
To protect the integrity of the Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships logo:
Maintain a clear surrounding area, free of competing visual elements.
The logo must always appear in its entirety.
No modification can be made to proportions, orientation, typography or colour.
The logo cannot bleed off the page.
Do not distort, stretch, tilt or modify the logo.
