Preamble
Before launching a drug in market; clinical research is invariably done. After years of arduous drug finding process, a chemical entity is formulated and administered in animals for checking safety and efficacy. If it passes the preclinical study, a drug molecule embarks its clinical research journey. Clinical research should be appropriately and skilfully done to ensure the safety and market applicability of drugs. Ethics is a crucial crux of all the research projects. Research ethics are a set of principles about how researchers and research organizations should conduct themselves when dealing with human participants in research work, other researchers and colleagues, the users of their research and society in general. Ethical considerations should be made in clinical research because of oodles of reasons: safety of participants and risk of trials, recruitment procedure of human volunteers, informed consent process and maintaining trial related data confidential. The essential ethical component underlying clinical research is respecting human dignity. It is arguable that misconduct and breach of ethical principles is negligible in research work but variations do exist. Even if misconduct is rare, it can have a tremendous impact on research. Scientific misdeeds are serious and include: fabrication, falsification, and plagiarism. Many of the issues in clinical research arise from the persons ignorant and oblivion to the ethical principles. So it is apparent that learning, imparting and inculcating ethical knowledge to the young researchers and scientists will certainly prevent the occurrence of ethical issues in clinical research.
Objective
The objective of the seminar is to disseminate information regarding clinical research ethics and issues associated with it. Participants will be acquainted with the clinical research, significance of ethics in the research work; important concepts, tools, principles and methods that can be useful in resolving the ethical issues in the clinical research.
