The ICGEB is a unique intergovernmental organisation initially established as a special project of UNIDO. Autonomous since 1994, it runs 46 state-of-the-art laboratories, in Trieste, Italy, New Delhi, India and Cape Town, South Africa and forms an interactive network with over 65 Member States.

The Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology is an autonomous national institute of the Government of India, Ministry for Science & Technology, Department of Biotechnology. Pharm program affiliated to Dr.Abdul Kalam Technical University, Lucknow and D. Pharm program affiliated to Board of Technical Education, Lucknow. The Institute is also approved by Pharmacy Council of India, New Delhi as well as All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi.
