Sandoz, a Novartis company and the global leader in biosimilars, announced that US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has accepted its Biologics License Application (BLA) under the 351 (k) pathway for its proposed biosimilar to Amgen's US-licensed Enbrel (etanercept) - a tumour necrosis factor alpha (TNF-alpha) inhibitor. This is the second BLA submission by Sandoz using the 351(k) biosimilar pathway.
To further Industry-Academic Symbiotic Relation, A one day Expert Lecture Series in collaboration with Evonik India pvt. Ltd., Vimal Life Sciences, Mikasa Cosmetics Ltd., and Beiersdorf Germany was conducted on 5th October 2015 at Institute of Pharmacy, Nirma University, Ahmedabad. It was well attended by faculty members, Ph.D. scholars, Students of M.Sc.(Cosmetics Tech.) & M. Pharm. and members from Industry. It was inaugurated by Director of Institute of Pharmacy Dr. Manjunath Ghate. This was possible due to the efforts of Dr.Sanjeev Acharya of Nirma University and Vinay Kumar Singh-General Manager(Technical) of Mikasa Cosmetics Limited, Ahmedabad.
Mr. Rahul Marulkar of Evonik presented on CAREtain-The innovation and sustainability while Mr. Sushobhan Dutta and Ms. Samiksha Pande of Vimal life Sciences deliberated on Personal Care Market in India and Global Technology Trend & Innovative Products for Hair & Skin Care.
Post Lunch session was completely technical with inputs from Dr. Christian Frese, Formulation Head of Beiersdorf, who demonstrated cosmetics formulation for emulsions, cleansing products and deodorants as well as antiperspirants.
It was a learning experience not only for students but other participants as well.

A two week seminar titled ‘Intellectual property rights and bioethics’ sponsored by Department of Biotechnology was organized by Acharya & B.M.Reddy College of Pharmacy, Bengaluru in association with IPA, Karnataka state branch, Peenya branch and education division.
On 24th August 2015 morning the programme was inaugurated by Dr Gopa Kumar G Nair, Nair Associates, Mumbai and Dr Ramakrishna T. Professor, National College of Law, Law University, Bengaluru. Shri B.M.Reddy, President Acharya Institutes Bengaluru and Dr DivakarGoli, Editor –IJPS and Principal of Acharya & B.M.Reddy College of Pharmacy, Bengaluru. The welcome speech was delivered by Dr DivakarGoli, Dr RoopaKarki,organizing secretary of the seminar given introduction about the seminar. Dr Gopa Kumar G Nair delivered motivating and interactive lecture. He spoke about importance intellectual property in the present scenario. Dr Ramakrishna T spoke about patents and patent filingsin India
First session was Dr Gopa Kumar G Nair, Nair associates, Mumbai. He gave excellent presentation on the topic of Emerging trends on patenting of Pharma&Biotech inventions in India& overseas. Dr Kama Raju, Principal AcharyaSchool of Law, Bengaluru. He enlightened about IPR.
Programme was continued for one week with eminent speakers Dr Ramkrishna T, Professor, National College of Law, Law University Bengaluru. Ms Brinda K Verma, Advocate & Patent Attorney, Bengaluru. Ms Rajalaxmi V Nesargi , Nesargi law group, Bengaluru, Dr Ramamurthy, Professor Centre for emerging technology Jain University Bengaluru, NG Lakshmi Narayan, Senior- manager business development NRDC, Bengaluru, Dr Sankar, Professor JSS College of Pharmacy, Ooty, Dr P Rajasekaran,Professor IIHR Hesaraghatta, Bengaluru.
Programme was continued for second week with Industrial speakers like Mrs VishakhaMetkar, Regulatory Affairs Colorcon Asia Pvt.Ltd. Goa, Mr Subramanyam SP,Infonic Hyderabad, Mr Rajesh Kapoor, Group Pharmaceuticals limited, Kolar District, Karnataka, Dr Mahesh,Nuvil laboratories limited, Bengaluru, Mr Vijay, SSA business solution private limited, Mumbai.
In the seminar speakers discussed and solved the case studies regarding filing of patents, patent search. They gave training on patent filing and patent writing and commercialization of patents. In the weeks end visited National college of Law, Law University Bengaluru and Indian Institute of Horticulture and Research Centre, Hesaraghatta, Bengaluru.
Valedictory function was concluded with the brief summary of the seminar and vote of thanks.

Farooqia College of Pharmacy has celebrated “Pharmacists Day and Felicitation ceremony” on 03/10/2015. On this occasion the Principal, Dr. Md Salahuddin, gave a brief introduction about the Pharmacists Day and welcomed the Guests. Chief Guest, Dr. Syed Akheel Ahmed, Former Vice Chancellor of Yenepoya University and presently Dean, Science & Technology University of Mysore has called upon the Pharmacy students to be more competitive and look for Knowledge and Research. He expressed that a big gap is their between doctors and the Pharmacists due to the vast field of the Pharmacy.
Pharmacists have many roles, as an Academician, Industrial, Hospital Pharmacists, Community Pharmacists and Regulatory etc. He called upon the students and staff to be more research oriented and asked to come forward to take the opportunities of Govt Funds that are available for research in Pharmaceutical field. Mr. Waseem-ur-Rahman, Drug Inspector Mysore and Alumni of Farooqia College of Pharmacy have encouraged the students for higher studies. He explained the students about the various rules and regulations of the Drug control department and types of punishments available for non availability of Qualified Pharmacists at the medical stores. Mr. Md Jowher Khalid, Drug Inspector Mysore has called upon the students to upgrade their knowledge from time to time to survive in profession in this competitive world. Prof. Riyaz Ahmed, President, Rifa-Hul Muslimeen Educational Trust and Taj Mohammed Khan Hon. Secretary, Farooqia Educational Institutions has lauded the performance of the Pharmacy students for getting Ranks in Karnataka state.
On this occasion Management has felicitated the 5 Rank holders and meritorious students of the college who excelled in studies during the academic year 2014-15. Mr. Mahboob Pasha, Manager of Astra Zeneca Ltd, Bangalore a 1984 batch student has been honoured as Distinguished Alumni of the College. On the eve of Pharmacists day, Poster is released on the Theme “Pharmacists: Your partner in Health”. Ms. Marjan Anbarsooz, Vice-President, FISA was also present. The function started with recitation of Quranic verses by Ms. Jumna. Mr. Saleem Ahmed, Lecturer, proposed the vote of thanks.
