The UGC has the unique distinction of being the only grant-giving agency in the country which has been vested with two responsibilities: that of providing funds and that of coordination, determination and maintenance of standards in institutions of higher education.  The UGC's mandate includes: Promoting and coordinating university education. Determining and maintaining standards of teaching, examination and research in universities. Framing regulations on minimum standards of education. Monitoring developments in the field of collegiate and university education; disbursing grants to the universities and colleges. Serving as a vital link between the Union and state governments and institutions of higher learning. Advising the Central and State governments on the measures necessary for improvement of university education.

University Grants Commission invites applications for the award of 1000 PG Scholarships under the scheme of PG Scholarship for Professional Courses for SC & ST candidates for the year 2012-2013 to undertake postgraduate level studies in professional subjects like Engineering & Technology, Management, Pharmacy etc. on regular basis only.

Only those candidates who have been admitted in postgraduate professional subjects at recognised universities/colleges during the academic session 2012-13 are eligible to apply under the scheme.

Selection will be made on the basis of merit by the Expert Committee. The guidelines of the scheme, detailed terms and conditions of the Scholarship, eligibility etc. may be seen by logging in the UGC website at ugc.ac.in

ON-LINE SUBMISSION WILL BE AVAILABLE On 07TH NOVEMBER, 2012 ONWARDS.

Applications in the prescribed format may be submitted only through on line mode latest by 06th December, 2012 (non extendable) by logging in website ugc.ac.in/pgsprof

The decision of the Commission with regard to selection of candidates for the award of scholarships shall be final.

NOTE :-
1. Applications submitted only through online mode shall be entertained and no application submitted in hard copy shall be entertained or considered for award of Scholarship in any circumstances whatsoever.
2. Record of the non-selected candidates shall not be preserved beyond three months from the date of declaration of results.
