National Institute for Research in Reproductive Health (NIRRH), formerly known as Institute for Research in Reproduction is a premier research institute of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). It is situated in the vicinity of a number of hospitals and research institutes in central Mumbai. Since its inception in 1970, it has been making vigorous efforts to improve the reproductive health of people through research, education and health care services.
Applications are invited upto 25th September 2012 for the posts of Scientist-D at the following Institutes/Centres in the Pay Band-3 Rs.15600-39100 plus Grade Pay Rs. 7600 and usual allowances as admissible as per Government norms.

(A) National Institute for Research in Reproductive Health, Mumbai.
Scientist-D (Reproductive Biology) - One post
Essential Qualification : (i) 1st class Master’s Degree in Life/Biological Sciences or relevant biological discipline from a recognized University or 2 nd class M. Sc. with Ph.D in relevant subject from a recognized University. (ii) Eight years Research and Development (R & D) experience in the relevant areas, in recognized Institutes after obtaining essential qualification (i) out of which at least 2 years in a management position to handle R & D projects in a team effectively in a directing capacity.
Desirable Qualification : i) Doctorate Degree in Life / Biological Science subject from a recognized University. (ii) Additional Post doctoral research/teaching experience in relevant subjects in recognized Institute(s). (iii) Knowledge of Computer Applications.
Job requirement : To carry out research on non-human primate models for health research. To co-ordinate research activities in this area. To assist Director as and when required. To co-ordinate various research activities like procurement of monkeys and maintain their health status and breeding of these animals. Scientist will also formulate and design various research projects in the areas of Maternal Health and Contraceptive Research using non-human primate models.
(B) Genetics Research Centre, Mumbai.
Scientist-D (Reproductive Genetics)-One Post
Essential Qualification : (i) MBBS recognized by MCI or 1 st class Master’s Degree in the relevant subject related to life sciences covering genetics or equivalent degree from a recognized University, or 2 nd class M.Sc. with Ph.D. degree in relevant subject from a recognized university. (ii) Eight years R&D experience in the relevant area, in recognized Institutes after obtaining essential qualification (i) above, out of which at least 2 years in a managerial position to handle R&D projects in a team effectively in a directing capacity.
Desirable Qualification : (i) M.D. in Pediatrics or Obstetrics and Gynecology from a recognized university. Or Doctorate degree in Medical Genetics or related science from a recognized university. (ii) Additional post doctoral research experience in relevant subject, from a recognized Insititute(S). (iii) Knowledge of Computer Applications.
Job requirement : (i) The candidate is expected to attend patients of genetic disorders, identify genetics syndromes, perform common genetics tests and render genetics counseling, perform prenatal detection of birth defects suing sonography and laboratory methods, (ii) He/She would also be responsible for leading projects involving research in the areas of genetics. (iii) The candidate would be responsible for teaching genetics to medical students and research fellows.
AGE : Not exceeding 45 years. Relaxable up to 5 years for Government servants and for SC/ST/OBC candidates in accordance with the instructions issued by the Department of Personnel and Training from time to time in this regard.

General Relaxation clause: Age, qualification and experience will be relaxable in deserving cases as mentioned in the Recruitment Rules of Health Research Scientists Cadre of ICMR, 2007 under Rule-14 & Notes:1 & 2 of Schedule-III.
One time age relaxation is also allowed to Scientific and Technical staff working in long term projects in ICMR Institutes/Centres for posts advertised under HRSC, 2007 provided they meet essential qualifications and experience for the post with a view to provide them opportunity to compete with other candidates as per Council’s letter No. 6/1/2007-Admn.II dated 28.03.2011.
Other Service Conditions:
- Pay Band PB-3 Rs. 15600-39100 + Rs.7600 Grade Pay
- Allowances as per Central Government Rules are admissible on the above pay Scale.
- Benefits of new restructured defined contributory Pension system are admissible as per the provision contained in the Ministry of Finance, Department of Economic Affairs (ECB & PR Division), Notification No. 5/7/2003-ECB & PR dated 22.12.2003 effective from 1.1.2004.
- Private practice is not allowed. However, non-practicing allowances is admissible to medical graduates only as per rules.
- Applications from employees working in Central/State Govt. Departments/Public Sector Undertaking and Govt. funded research agencies must be forwarded through proper channel. Advance copies of application will be considered subject to the conditions that a “No Objection Certificate” from the employer is produced at the time of personal discussion. Application received after the closing date will not be considered. Candidates called for personal discussion/ interview have the option to answer in Hindi also.

(d)Crossed Indian Postal Order (IPO) for Rs. 100/- (Rupees One Hundred Only) payable to the Director, NIRRH, Mumbai. SC/ST/PH & women candidates are exempted from the application fees. IPOs are payable by all other candidates including ICMR employees. - Unsigned/incomplete application or application without supportive evidence asked for/without postal order application received late are liable to be summarily rejected.
Note:-
(1) MD/Ph.D degree in subject relevant to ICMR shall be treated equivalent to three years experience.
(2) Candidates with MD/Ph.D degree will be preferred for direct selection.
(3) If no suitable candidate is found at Scientist-D level, the post can be filled up at Scientist-C level.
(4) Since it is not possible to call all the eligible candidates for the interview/personal discussion, the applicants will be short-listed for this purpose. The decision of the Director General, ICMR will be final in this regard.
(5) Candidates called for interview will be paid 1 st Class rail fare by the shortest route on production of documents.
(6) Any canvassing by or on behalf of the candidates or to bring political or other outside influence with regard to selection/recruitment shall be grounds for disqualification.
(7) The post is with all India transfer liability under the Council.
