Research at NCBS (a part of the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research ) uses experimental and computational approaches to the study of molecules, cells and organisms. They aim to understand biology at each of these levels to advance an integrated view of life processes.
While the mandate of NCBS is the study of biology, they realize that success requires research problems to be approached from a variety of directions. They therefore have recruited, and encourage applications from, researchers with a variety of backgrounds in the natural sciences, mathematics and computer science.
Post: Scientific Administrator
They are looking for two scientific administrators to be based within the Research Administration complex and provide support for their core research and academic activities.
The Academic Office and Dean’s Office manage recruitment, evaluation and career development for students, post-doctoral researchers and Faculty at NCBS. The Research Development Office manages the Extramural Grant Funding program at NCBS, interacting closely with the Academic office and Dean’s office.
Working with the Head of Academic Activities and Dean of Faculty, the Program Manager will be primarily responsible for ensuring smooth administration of the two programs, management of personnel databases, orientation programs for new starters, annual reviews and outreach to external agencies as appropriate.
Working with the Head, Research Development, the Grants Adviser will primarily work to facilitate applications for funding from local and international sources, contribute to and manage the NCBS grant database and assist with the post-award management of funded grants.
Both incumbents will also be expected to flexibly undertake any other duties that may be required from time to time for the complex.
Applicants to both roles should have:
A background in Life Sciences and be trained at least to the Master’s (preferably PhD) level
Strong time-management and interpersonal skills
Good organizational ability
Initiative, enthusiasm and a flexible approach to work
The ability to analyze, summarize and communicate information
The ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Prior experience in scientific administration and/or working within a University setting will be desirable
