The history of the IIT system dates back to 1946 when a committee was set up by Hon'ble Sir Jogendra Singh, Member of the Viceroy's Executive Council, Department of Education, Health and Agriculture to consider the setting up of Higher Technical Institutions for post war industrial development in India. The 22 member committee headed by Sri N.R.Sarkar, in its report, recommended the establishment of four Higher Technical Institutions in the Eastern, Western, Northern and Southern regions, possibly on the lines of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA, with a number of secondary institutions affiliated to it.

Qualifications & Experience:
RA: Ph.D (Algal Biotechnology/ Chemical Engineering/ Biochemical Engineering/ Environmental Biotechnology/ Basic or Applied Microbiology) with some relevant research experience. Candidates who have submitted their Ph.D thesis and are waiting to defend the same may also apply. However, his/her selection for the position will be subject to the condition that he/she will have to produce the relevant documents in support of successful thesis defense at the time of joining, if applicable.
SRF: M.Tech (Biotechnology/ Chemical Engineering/ Biochemical Engineering) with some exposure to the field of algal biotechnology or M.Sc (Biotechnology) with minimum 2 years of research experience in the area of algal biotechnology through project/dissertation.
