G.B. Pant Institute of Himalayan Environment and Development (GBPIHED) was established in 1988-89, during the birth centenary year of Bharat Ratna Pt. Govind Ballabh Pant, as an autonomous Institute of the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF), Govt. of India, which has been identified as a focal agency to advance scientific knowledge, to evolve integrated management strategies, demonstrate their efficacy for conservation of natural resources, and to ensure environmentally sound development in the entire Indian Himalayan Region (IHR).   The Institute attempts to maintain a balance of intricate linkages between socio-cultural, ecological, economic and physical systems that could lead to sustainability in the IHR.

Junior Research/ Project Fellow (01 No.)
Position and emoluments:
Junior Research/ Project Fellow (01 No.) @ Rs 12,000/- (Fixed Per Month) + HRA OR @ Rs 16,000/- for NET qualified persons
Project Name: “Ecophysiological and microbial studies in relation to climate change along an environmental gradient in Himalayan systems” DST funded project, PI- Dr. S.K. Nandi
Qualification and Age: First class Masters degree in Microbiology/ Biochemistry with specialization in Soil Microbiology/Soil Biochemistry.
Preference will be given to candidates having knowledge in instrumentation and experience of working in the Himalayan region.
Nature of duties:
Determination of microbial diversity at different altitudes with reference to rhizosphere microorganisms.

Junior Research/ Project Fellow (01 No.)
Position and emoluments:
Junior Research/ Project Fellow (01 No.) @ Rs 12,000/- (Fixed Per Month) + HRA OR @ Rs 16,000/- for NET qualified persons
Project Name: “Indicators of climate change in the context of Himalayan forest ecosystems along an environmental gradient “ DST funded project, PI – G.C.S. Negi.
Qualification and Age: First class Masters Degree in Botany, Forestry, Environmental Sciences in addition to above P.G. Diploma in RS/GIS OR M.Sc./M.Tech. (RS & GIS) with B.Sc. as Botany/Forestry as one of main subjects.
Preference will be given to candidates having experience on Himalayan forests/vegetation.
Nature of duties: Extensive field work in the remote locations of forests in mountains and rigorous lab. Work

Position and emoluments:
Junior Research/ Project Fellow (01 No.) @ Rs 12,000/- (Fixed Per Month)
Project Name: “Twisted chir pine in Uttarakhand: Molecular marker for early detection of twisted trait at the nursery stage” U-Cost Funded Project, PI- Dr. Shilpi Paul.
Qualification and Age: Masters degree (at least 55% marks) in Molecular Biology/ Biotechnology/ Biochemistry/ Life Science.
Experience in basic molecular biology techniques like DNA isolation and PCR etc.
Nature of duties:
• To conduct survey in remote areas
• Molecular and biochemical analysis

Qualification and Age:

Specialization in Plant taxonomy, Ecology and Forestry Experience of field research in Indian Himalayan Region
Nature of duties: To conduct field survey in cold desert areas of Indian Himalayan Region

Technical Assistant (01 No)
Position and emoluments: Technical Assistant (01 No) Rs. 7000/- pm fixed
Project Name: “Creating a Genomics platform for Apple research in India” DBT Sponsored Project, PIDr. I.D. Bhatt
Qualification and Age: Graduate in Science background
Preference will be given to candidates having Master’s degree in Life Sciences.
Nature of duties: Assist Researchers in field data collection and laboratory work including maintenance of accessions.

Age Limit:
For Junior Research/Project Fellow 28 years, Senior Research Fellow 32 years, Research Associate 35 years and for Technical Assistant 28 years. Relaxation for SC/ST/Women/PH and OBC as per Govt. norms
