ICRISAT is a non-profit, apolitical, international organization for science-based agricultural development. Established in 1972, it is an Alliance of centers of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR), and supported by more than 48 governments, foundations, and development banks. To reduce poverty, enhance crop productivity and food security and to protect the environment, ICRISAT research focuses on farming systems and crop improvement, management and utilization of sorghum, pearl millet, pigeonpea, chickpea, and groundnut in the semi-arid tropics.
ICRISAT seeks applications from Indian nationals for the post of Laboratory Technician to be based at Patancheru, Andhra Pradesh, India. This is a nationally recruited position.
Post: Laboratory Technician
Responsibilities:
Assist the Cereal Genomics group in routine laboratory activities such as-
- DNA and RNA extraction; quality checking
- Prepare stock solutions, buffers for routine molecular biology experiments
- PCR amplification
- Gel Electrophoresis, capillary electrophoresis for genotyping and data analysis
- Assist in preparations for High Throughput Genotyping and further necessary analysis
- Assist in conducting glass house experiments and data management
- Tabulate /record the data jobs assigned from time to time
Competencies:
- Understanding of Basic DNA science and molecular biology laboratory procedures
- Proficiency in basic molecular biology laboratory techniques
- Well-versed with DNA extraction, RNA extraction, PCR amplification, Gel electrophoresis, Gene expression studies etc
- Good knowledge of MS-Office in particular MS-Excel
Requirements:
- Graduate in Biological/Life Sciences from a recognized university
- Applied/theoretical knowledge of DNA science
- 2-3 years of relevant experience in a well-known Molecular biology laboratory
- Proficiency in MS-Office
