Assam University came into existence through Assam (Central) University Act, 1989 (Act. No. XIII). It was established in 1994, since then the University is steadily becoming an excellent centre of learning. The campus, situated in Dargakona, about 20 kms from Silchar, is set amid sprawling hillocks, a typical landscape in the North East. The campus in an area of 600 acres surrounded by lakes and mountains provides an ideal environment for academic pursuit.

This is to advertise for a JRF post in Organic Chemistry, under DBTs NER-Twinning Programme, in Assam University (Central University), Silchar, Assam. The project is titled: Nanoassisted C60-Pyrimidine Derivatives: Their Synthesis, Characterization, Neuroprotective and Antiviral Activities. This project is in collaboration with NIMHANS (Bangalore) and ICGEB (N. Delhi).
It is a major project, for three years, on the applications of fullerene derivatives towards Perkinson’s Disease (PD) and HIV-1 virus. This involves interdisciplinary approach. The JRF will be mostly subjected to synthetic aspects of organic chemistry and the various forms of characterization related to that. Competent candidates with research background in synthetic organic chemistry and knowledge fo biology/biotechnology are requested to mail their applications along with a self attested photograph and their CV (mentioning their academic details, detailed research goals, past experiences related to research in organic chemistry) to devashish.sengupta@uni.sydney.edu.au

Emolument: JRF Rs.16,000/- + HRA for the 1st two years and Rs 18,000/- + HRA for the 3rd year for SRF and applicable only if JRF/SRF is NET/GATE/BET/BINC qualified, otherwise it shall Rs 12,000/- +HRA only for the 1st two years for JRF and Rs 14,000/- + HRA for the 3rd year for SRF.
Essential qualification: M.Sc in Chemistry /Biochemistry/Pharmaceutical Chemistry/others equivalent to Master’s Degree but having research experience in Organic Chemistry.
Candidates having an aggregate of below 55% in MSc cannot apply.
A formal interview will be held at the department of Chemistry, Assam University, Silchar (ASSAM), on the 15th of April 2013 (at 1 pm), but no TA or DA will be entitled for that. All necessary documents will be verified then.
