Agharkar Research Institute (ARI) is an autonomous, grant-in-aid research institute of the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Goverment of India. It was established in 1946 by the Maharashtra Association for the Cultivation of Science as MACS Research Institute and renamed as ARI in 1992 in honour and memory of its founder Director, late Professor S.P. Agharkar.

Qualifications:
For RA under MIC-10: Essential: 1st Class M.Sc. & Ph.D. in Microbiology/ Biotechnology with publications in scientific journals.
Desirable: Experience in isolation characterization and Molecular identification of bacteria under archaea and reporting novel special (bacterial).
For RA under SP-205: Essential: 1st Class M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Microbiology/Biotechnology/ Environmental Science with publications in scientific journals.
Desirable: Experience in Microbial waste water treatment and/or microbial degradation of petroleum hydrocarbons.
For JRF: Essential: (i) 1st class M.Sc. in Microbiology & (ii) Clearance of CSIR-UGC/NET.
Desirable: Experience in Microbial Identification(molecular approach), Taxonomy/ Diversity.
Monthly stipend: RA - Rs.22000/-+HRA, JRF Rs.12000/- + HRA
Age limit: RA – 35 years and JRF – 28 years, relaxable by 5 years for SC, ST, OBC and female candidates.

In case of non-availability of qualified RA, position may be filled at lower grade of Extended SRF (stipend Rs.16000/- + HRA) OR SRF (stipend Rs.14000/- + HRA) as per Institute norms. Similarly in case of non-availability of qualified JRF, candidate having Master Degree (as stated above) with minimum 55% marks may be considered for Research Studentship @ Rs.11,000/- (fixed) p.m.

The prescribed essential qualifications are bare minimum and mere possession of same will not entitle the candidate to be called for interview. In case number of applications received in response to the advertisement is large, it may not be convenient or possible for the Institute to interview all the candidates. The Institute may restrict the number of candidates to be called for interview to a reasonable limit, on the basis of qualifications and experience higher than the minimum prescribed in the advertisement.
