5 (Five) BSR Meritorious Fellowships to Madurai Kamaraj University

Madurai Kamaraj University, established in 1966, has 18 Schools comprising 73 Departments. The Directorate of Distance Education of the University has a student strength of about 1.30 lakhs. The University has 109 affiliated Colleges (9 Autonomous) including other approved institutions and 7 evening colleges. There are centres which promote research potential of teachers. Extension activities are carried out through Department of Youth Welfare, NSS, SC/ST cell and Adult Education programmes.

UGC has sanctioned 5 (Five) BSR Meritorious Fellowships to the School of Biotechnology, Madurai Kamaraj University for the year 2012-2013. Candidates who passed M.Sc. in Biotechnology, Zoology, Botany, Microbiology, Biochemistry and other Life Sciences may apply in the prescribed Application Form.

ELIGIBILITY:
Category 1:
The candidates qualified in the CSIR, UGC, ICMR, DBT, GATE and other equivalent National Entrance Tests (NET) and SLET are exempted from appearing in the Entrance Test. They are eligible to directly attend the interview before the Selection Committee.

Category 2:
The candidates with M.Sc./M.Phil are also eligible to apply and they have to appear in an Entrance Test conducted by the School. Those candidates who are declared ‘eligible’ will attend the interview before the Selection Committee.
Both Category 1 and Category 2 students should submit the Application Form (in duplicate) on or before July 12th, 2013.

Fellowship:
For Non-Gate Candidates:
(1st and IInd Year) Rs.14,000/p.m. + Contingency Rs.12,000/p.a.
(3rd to Vth Year ) Rs.16,000/p.m. + Contingency Rs.25,000/p.a.
For GATE qualified candidates:
(1st and IInd Year) Rs.16,000/p.m. + Contingency Rs.12,000/p.a.
(3rd to Vth Year ) Rs.18,000/p.m. + Contingency Rs.25,000/p.a.

Duration of the Programme:
The tenure of fellowship is initially for two years. Upon expiry of this period, the work of the fellow will be evaluated by an Expert Committee. If found satisfactory, his/her tenure will be extended for a further period of three years.
