The history of Jamia Hamdard begins with the establishment of a small Unani clinic in the year 1906 by Hakeem Hafiz Abdul Majeed, one of the well-known practitioners of Unani System of Medicine of his time. Hakeem Hafiz Abdul Majeed had a vision of making the practice of Unani Medicine into a scientific discipline so that Unani medicines could be dispensed in a more efficacious manner to patients.
Post: Research Fellowships
Applications are invited from researchers around the world for a limited number of ‘Hamdard Centenary Fellowships’ created in honour of the Founder, Jamia Hamdard, Hakeem Abdul Hameed. The Founder was a renowned physician of Unani-tib who promoted integrated research encompassing the traditional and modern approaches of therapy. As a tribute to his philosophy, these high value fellowships will be awarded on a competitive basis to the young researchers to work on interdisciplinary research problems.
The Fellowship
Fellowship will be open to individuals of any nationality for post-doctoral research work in frontline research in the core competencies of Jamia Hamdard such as pharmaceutical research (all fields), biotechnology (plant biotechnology, vaccinology); biochemistry (protein biochemistry; liver disorders and their prevention); botany (plant molecular biology; plant physiology; medicinal plants); toxicology (cancer chemoprevention; neurotoxicology; ecotoxicology); chemistry (medicinal chemistry; natural product chemistry); nanomedicine; translational and clinical research or any other discipline of research at Jamia Hamdard.
Eligibility
• Ph.D. in relevant field from a recognized University.
• At least two years’ post-doctoral experience in an international laboratory in a scientifically advanced country.
• At least 5 publications in SCI/SCIE journals with impact factor 3 or above.
• Interest in teaching
Age limit
Below 45 years; can be relaxed in case of women researchers or persons with physically challenged condition.
Emoluments
• India Rs. 50,000 per month + House rent allowance or accommodation on campus.
• Research grant- Indian Rs. 100,000 per annum
• Contingency grant - Rs. 50,000 per annum.
Selection procedure
Selection will be on the basis of nomination by the Vice Chancellors of Universities, Directors of the national laboratories, Secretaries of Government of India Departments concerned with research and development, and eminent scholars from India and abroad.
