The International Institute for Population Sciences (IIPS) serves as a regional Institute for Training and Research in Population Studies for the ESCAP region. It was established in Mumbai in July 1956, till July 1970 it was known as the Demographic Training and Research Centre (DTRC) and till 1985 it was known as the International Institute for Population Studies (IIPS). The Institute was re-designated to its present title in 1985 to facilitate the expansion of its academic activities and was declared as a 'Deemed University' in August 19, 1985 under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956 by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. The recognition has facilitated the award of recognized degrees by the Institute itself and paved the way for further expansion of the Institute as an academic institution.
MASTER OF SCIENCE IN BIO-STATISTICS AND EPIDEMIOLOGY
No. of Seats: 50 Seats with Govt. of India fellowship.
Eligibility: Candidates with a Bachelor’s degree from recognized universities in India or abroad with a minimum of 55% marks in Mathematics, Statistics, Health Sciences, Life Sciences, B. Pharma, Medicine, etc. will be eligible for admission to the above programme. Candidates awaiting results of qualifying examination by June 2013 can also apply for consideration. The upper age limit is 30 years as on 30.6.2013. Marks and age are relaxable for candidates belonging to reserved categories as per GOI rules.
Duration: Two years (Full-time)
Fellowship/Sponsorship: Each selected Indian student will be awarded a Government of India fellowship @ ` 5000/- per month.
Selection Criteria: The selection will be made on the basis of a written test, personal interview and past academic records. Only shortlisted candidates will be called for the test and interview. Shortlisted candidates appearing for admission test are entitled to claim sleeper class round trip fare by the shortest route on production of original tickets.
Written Test and Interview : 25 & 26 July, 2013
Commencement of Course : 5th August, 2013
Reservation: Reservation for SC/ST/OBC/PH candidates will be considered as per the Government of India norms.
Eligible foreign students can also apply for admission provided they secure financial support from any outside agency.
Availability of Application Form: Prescribed application form and information can be obtained from the Assistant Registrar (Academic), International Institute for Population Sciences, Deonar, Mumbai-400 088 in person or by sending a self addressed ` 50/- stamped envelope (25cm x 12cm) on or before 28th June, 2013. The form may also be downloaded by CLICKING HERE.
The completed application form along with necessary enclosures (including e-mail ID & telephone number) and a non-refundable processing fee of Rs. 400/- (exempted for SC/ST and PH candidates) by Demand Draft, drawn from any nationalised Bank in favour of the Director, IIPS, Mumbai should reach the Assistant Registrar (Academic) on or before 1st July, 2013. The processing fee may also be paid by cash at the cash counter and the cash receipt should be attached along with the completed application set.
