WWF-India, one of the largest conservation organisations, engaged in wildlife and nature conservation in the country, invites applications from candidates with an inherent sensitivity towards the conservation of nature for the post of Senior Landscape Coordinator for its Terai Arc Landscape Office in Uttarakhand.
This is a senior programme position and the incumbent shall primarily be responsible for ensuring the successful execution of existing projects, primarily the Return of The King project in the Indian state of Uttarakhand, besides managing the landscape portfolio within the state of Uttarakhand, supervising the team in TAL-Uttarakhand for project implementation with special reference to tiger conservation including tiger recovery in selected sites such as Rajaji, Lansdowne, Ramnagar and Nandhaur Valley

Job Description:

  1. Programme management and implementation of approved activities in Uttarakhand part of TAL and lead the team based in Kaladhungi.
  2. Coordinating the implementation of various programmatic targets set in the Return of the King project as well as other approved projects in the TAL-Uttarakhand part from time to time.
  3. Analyze the policies of the state governments of Uttarakhand that might have immediate or long term effects on conservation of species and their habitats in the state, and strategise actions as well as conduct policy advocacy to reduce adverse impacts on wildlife survival in the state.
  4. Be the main liaison for WWF-India’s programmatic work in TAL –Uttarakhand and maintain a healthy relationship with government authorities, civil society organizations and other stakeholders.
  5. Working with the Team Leader – TAL for network support and communication matters related to the Return Of The King project and other approved projects under LHNI and TAI in Uttarakhand part of the TAL.
  6. Responsible for technical and financial monitoring of the different projects carried out in Uttarakhand part of the landscape.
  7. Working with the TAL Programme team for strategizing and supervising the activities and bring about innovative ideas for further development of the TAL programme.
  8. Work with the teams in the Secretariat and the landscape to prepare quality funding proposals, and timely submission of those for raising specific restricted funding to carry on strategic work in the landscape, and broaden the scope according to the targeted resources available.

Pre-requisites for the Position Include:

  • Ph.D. (preferred)/M.Phil/M.Sc in Ecology/ Environment/ Natural Resource Management/ Zoology/ Botany/ Bio-science or any other related discipline.
  • Minimum of 3 years post qualification experience (for candidates with Ph.D) /6 years (candidates without Ph.D.), in the relevant area with a strong understanding of wildlife conservation issues in India and the region.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to manage a team and work with multiple stakeholders
  • Existing networks with the civil society and government partners in the country for wildlife conservation.

Desired Skills and Abilities:

  • Good written and oral communication skills in English and Hindi. Knowledge of the local language will be an advantage.
  • Excellent project development and project management skills.
  • High level of interpersonal skills, especially relationship management and consensus building skills and the ability to work as part of a high-level international team
