The “Central Government Health Scheme” (CGHS) for the Central Govt. employees and their dependents was started in New Delhi in 1954. Subsequently, the scheme was extended to pensioners, freedom fighters and other specific groups of people. The scheme was introduced in Chennai in the year 1975, with 4 dispensaries to begin with. CGHS wellness centers are the backbone of the Scheme and provide health services to the beneficiaries. At present there are 14 wellness centres at CGHS Chennai covering the entire metropolitan city including suburban areas like Avadi.

Scale of Pay : Pay Band- 1, Rs.5200-20200 Plus Grade Pay of Rs.2800/-
Age Limit : Between 18 and 25 years.
(Relaxable for Government servants upto the age of forty years in the case of general candidates and upto forty five years in the case of candidates belonging to the Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes in accordance with the instructions or orders issued by the Central Government from time to time). SC/ST – 05 years (MHA No.15/1/55-SCT,dated 30.04.1955)} for reserved OBC – 03 years (OM No.43013/2/95-ESTT,dated 25.01.1995) } posts Savings: Nothing in these rules shall affect reservation, relaxation of age limit and other concession required to be provided for the SC, ST and OBC, the Ex- Servicemen and other special categories of persons in accordance with the orders issued by the Central Government from time to time in this regard.
Educational qualification :
(i) 12th Class pass with science subjects (Physics, Chemistry and Biology) or Equivalent from a recognised Board or University.
(ii) Diploma in Pharmacy from recognised institution and registered as Pharmacist under the Pharmacy Act, 1948; and
(iii) Two years’ experience as Pharmacist in any recognised Hospital or Pharmacy after duly registered as Pharmacist under the Pharmacy Act 1948; and OR (i) Bachelor degree in Pharmacy (B. Pharm.) from a recognised university or equivalent; and
(ii) Registered as a Pharmacist under the Pharmacy Act, 1948

The shortlisted applications of candidates will be sent to the National Board of Examinations, Ansari Nagar, Mahatma Gandhi Marg, (Ring Road), New Delhi – 110029, who will issue admit card for the examination. The date of examination and venue at Chennai will be informed in the admit card.
TA/DA as per provisions of the Government of India will be provided to SC/ST candidates for appearing the examination.
